Ground To Be Broken On 100 Affordable Housing Units in South Tampa
SOUTH TAMPA, FL - As the city continues to struggle to provide affordable housing, another 100 units of affordable housing are coming to South Tampa. The Tampa Housing Authority will break ground at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, on Casa Bel-Mar, funded by Hillsborough County, the Tampa Housing Authority, the city of Tampa, private developers and housing finance partners. Casa Bel-Mar will have 63 one-bedroom units and 37 two-bedroom units on 1.7 acres at 4003 S. Manhatan Ave. The units will range in size from 619 square feet to 886 square feet and will be rented at below-market rates to those earning 30 percent to 80 percent of the Area Median Income. The complex will include a community center, a library/tech lab and a fitness center, and it will serve as a site for social programs such as adult literacy and employment assistance. Hillsborough County contributed $2.5 million toward the project, part of its effort to address affordable housing issues. The programs and services funded by the county focus on creating new affordable housing opportunities, training for residents to further their careers and afford home ownership, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the communities. |
