Unit Types

A Single Family Detached home.
Single Family Detached
A dwelling, which can be any number of stories, that is detached from any other living units and is occupied by only one family or individual.

A white two-family home.
Duplex or Two Family

A dwelling that contains two separate living areas, which can be any number of stories, that is detached from any other living units and is occupied by two families or separate individuals.

Row House/Town House
A (1), (2), or (3) story unit in a complex consisting of a line of identical or very similar units joined by common walls.

A low-rise brick building.
Low-Rise, including Garden Apartment
A building consisting of several units in a (2), (3), or (4) story building. An individual or group lives in a room or a suite of rooms within the building.

A high-rise building.
High-Rise
A building consisting of several units in a 5 or more story building. An individual or group lives in a room or a suite of rooms within the building.

A small manufactured home.
Manufactured Home
A manufactured structure largely assembled in factories and then transported to sites of use. It is built on a permanent chassis to assure the initial and continued transportability of the home.

A room that contains a bed.
Single Room Occupancy
A unit that provides living and sleeping space for the exclusive use of the occupant, but requires the occupant to share sanitary and/or food preparation facilities.

Congregate
Shared living housing designed to integrate the housing and services needs of elders and younger disabled individuals. It contains a shared central kitchen and dining area and a private living area for the individual household of at least a living room, bedroom and bathroom. Food service for residents must be provided.

Cooperative
Housing owned by a non-profit corporation or association, and where a member of the corporation or association has the right to reside in a particular apartment, and to participate in management of the housing.

Shared Housing
Housing in which a group of usually unrelated people reside together. It is a single housing unit occupied by an assisted family and another resident or residents. The shared unit consists of both common space for use by the occupants of the unit and separate private space for each assisted family.

Independent Group Home Residence
A dwelling unit that is licensed by a State as a group home for exclusive residential use of persons who are elderly or persons with disabilities. The group home consists of residents' bedrooms, which can be shared by no more than two people, and a living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and other appropriate social, recreational, or community space that may be shared with other residents. No more than 12 persons may reside in a group home.
