TAMPA, Fla. - June 3, 2024 - On Monday, June 17, the Tampa Bay History Center and Tampa
Housing Authority ignite Juneteenth Week with a momentous announcement. Together, they
reveal their collaboration in creating Tampa's Black History Museum, a groundbreaking initiative
honoring Tampa's vibrant Black heritage.
Kicking off Juneteenth Week's celebrations of freedom, resilience, and the enduring cultural
legacy of African Americans, the ceremony will be graced by distinguished speakers, including
Mayor Jane Castor, Representative Dianne Hart, County Commissioner Gwen Myers, and
leaders from the NAACP and Urban League. Their presence underscores the significance of this
endeavor in amplifying Black voices and preserving the diverse cultural contributions that enrich
Tampa.
