Zion Cemetery Historical Marker Dedication
Honoring Tampa's First African American Burial Ground
TAMPA, Fla. - Feb. 05, 2025 - The Zion Cemetery Preservation & Maintenance Society invites the community to the dedication of the Zion Cemetery Historical Marker, a significant milestone in reclaiming and honoring Tampa's first African American burial ground. The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at 3515 N. Florida Ave., Tampa, FL.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will lead the dedication of the Zion Cemetery historical marker, ensuring the site's legacy is honored and preserved. Hillsborough County Commissioner Gwen Myers and Florida Representative Fentrice Driskell will deliver remarks highlighting the importance of preserving this sacred site and safeguarding the memory of those buried there is never forgotten.
